The Kashmiri form of papier-mache has rich antecedents. The handicraft technique traveled to India from Persia and with it came knowledge of depicting nature in one of the most beautiful places on earth - Kashmir. This piece has been carefully crafted by hand, depicting the flora and vista of the land it was made in. Rumi, the Persian mystic, had once said, “Be like melting snow. Wash yourself of yourself.” This treasure chest is a tribute to that goal of simplicity.
